Roadblocks to implementing technology in the classroom

What roadblocks do teachers face when integrating technology into the classroom? How do we overcome those obstacles so that technology becomes an integral part of every classroom?

  2. I think teachers need time to practice and "play around" with new technology before trying to implement it. When we don't have that opportunity, it tends to get back burnered. Also, some of the instructions are not very user friendly to me. Once I understand it and come to a degree of understanding of it, I enjoy utilizing it.

  3. It seems that using technology in the classroom is becoming an integral part of teaching. Having said that, I feel that teachers don't have time to learn all the needed technology. Many times instructions are not user friendly. Time for training during school hours would be most helpful. Training during after hours are difficult because we all have lives that need tending to. I would use more technology in the classroom if I understood how to use it and felt confident in doing so.

  4. To be honest, I feel that the roadblocks to using technology in the classroom come in the form of time constraints (lack of quality planning time and staff development time devoted to technology), lack of time to develop lesson plans to include technology such as CPS, powerpoint, United Streaming, etc., and, students not having access to computers more than a few times during a semester because of crowded/overbooking conditions in the computer labs or lack of equipment in the classrooms. Wouldn't it be wonderful if each student could have their own laptop? Seriously, to overcome these obstacles, how about staff development days devoted to developing lesson plans to include technology such as CPS, United Streaming, powerpoint - not just students using the computer lab. Staff development days devoted to the classroom and using technology in the classroom rather than listening to another motivational speaker. I wouldn't be here if I wasn't motivated to be here. Also, better scheduling for the usage of the computer labs we do have - not just scheduling the same time every week and then not using the lab during that scheduled time. The time could possibly have been put to better use than sitting empty. Finally, being able to come to terms that without the necessary tools (such as classrooms having computers or students with laptops), it is hard to accomplish the job well. I have learned after years of working on home projects that if I don't have the right tools for the job, I almost always have great difficulty being able to finish the job to my satisfaction. Some of these roadblocks and obstacles will not come down until teachers, students, and classrooms have the necessary tools needed to do the job.
